Attention Deviants still following my Ice Climbers fic. This journal post is to let you know that chances are bad that it will ever be completed. The reasons are thus: There are several sections of the first chapter I believe require a rewrite; and my growing belief that fan fiction as a whole is a crock. Over the years I have witnessed many fan fictions and have noticed a common thread: they suck. Never in a fan fiction have I gotten the same emotional connection as with the actual work. Never in a fan fiction has the writer been able to preserve the core of who those fictional characters truly are, what it means to be them. Most fan fiction writers shouldn't be allowed near a word processor, because everything they crank out is soulless filth. Fan fiction as a whole comes across to me as even less real then the stuff it's based on. Fan fiction doesn't seem about preserving what's true about characters and stories, it about mucking about in some other persons world, rejecting who the characters are in order to play out some juvenile fantasy of the writers or in order to fulfill some bizarre sexual dream. Who are you to enter someone else's world and mess it up? What gives you the right to create twisted emo versions of fictitious characters, pair them up, and then attempt to denounce their TRUE CREATOR'S path for them with your heartless slash fics. You all cluster together on the Internet, in your two-dimensional OC identities, forsaking the true story for a handful of Creative Writing class rejects that fulfill a twisted desire in your hearts. I've seen stories that read like original work, the writers simply LACKED the imagination to create original characters of locations. I look upon the whole of Fanficdom and all I see is the puerile dregs of stunted, malformed imaginations.
I don't want to add to that. It started out so simply for me. I looked my favorite characters to play on Melee, and I looked at their actual game, and I saw that they HAD no world of their own, nothing except a mountain full of seals/yetis, some inexplicably located produce, and a giant condor. I just wanted to give them what all fictional characters need. A story. But now I can't in good conscience continue. I look around, and see gawky teenagers walking around with ninja headbands. I look on TV, and see none of the humorous slapstick and witty jokes that used to make up American cartoons. Instead I see anime knockoffs bereft of content. Let me tell you about my brother. He's more of a fangirl then most of you. He sketches androgynous anime characters, he goes to conventions, he has an extensive library of gay romance graphic novels. "They're shonen-ai mangas!" he yells. That's Japanese for gay romance graphic novels. The sooner he admits using Japanese words doesn't make it different or better, the sooner he becomes a bit more tolerable. He writes slash fics. His latest is very popular on AdultFAnFiction.net. It's a Harry Potter fic, starring Fenrir Grayback and Harry as the gay couple. Of course in order to make it work, Pocky Brain had to tweak Fenrirs personality, make him not the psychotic mass murderer J.K. Rowling created him as.
If any of you truly want to see this thing completed, you'll have to convince me. Of course, some of you will probably just copy the first chapter and write on your own from there, and take it in a direction I couldn't for reasons of taste. Originality doesn't really mean much to you people.
In closing, as a summation: I don't want AU, I don't like AU, I want the real deal and the real deal only.
